Introduction: Hello Everyone!

Hi Everyone!
My name is Marissa Munoz and I'm a Management Information Systems (or MIS for short) major. The coolest thing about my major in my opinion is the amazing things I'm able to do with technology!

The best class I took last semester was really hard to choose for me, so I'm picking a few of them. I took World Music which was super fun and I got to learn about different cultures along with the music they use. Another one of my favorite classes was my Human Rights class. I was able to learn so much about the world and the different issues it faces. From human rights violations in the US to Cambodia, I'm grateful I was able to open my eyes with that class and educate myself on different issues.

Some of my biggest accomplishments last year are some things I'm really proud of! I was offered an internship position at Citi financial for this past summer. I met so many wonderful interns and employees during the program. I was able to learn so much from this experience and I'm so happy and thankful I was a part of the summer program. Another accomplishment I'm super proud of is getting selected for some scholarships. My academic career has been a roller coaster and I'm really proud that I was able to turn it into something to be proud of and get rewarded for my work ethic.

As far as exciting things I did this summer, I didn't have much time for a break. I worked full time with the internship for 10 weeks during the summer. But thankfully I was able to take a relaxing vacation to Arizona before the semester started up. It was super hot while I was there (110 was the temperature for some of the days) but it was a fun experience overall.

Some of my favorite TV shows are Brooklyn 99, Steven Universe, The 100, and Stranger Things. Favorite movies are Jurassic Park, Forrest Gump, The Princess and the Frog, The Book of Life, and Spiderman- Into the Spider-verse. I have a love for animated movies, especially when the art style is done well. My music taste is a very wide range and I like songs from almost every genre. My top favorites are rap, pop, R&B, alternative and sometimes country if I'm in the mood for it.

My career goals as of now are to get a job ☺. I'll be graduating in December so it's really crunch time for me! So short-term goals are to get a good starting job at a good company. As far as long-term goals, I want to either be a database administrator or a developer! I've loved all my coding and database classes so I hope I'm able to apply those skills to my future career.

I have two pets that I adore so much. I have a small terrier mix(Ella) and a German shepherd mix(Rocket) that my family adopted while I was in my early years of high school. They're both super sweet and love human food that they're not supposed to have. When I take them on walks Ella usually has to be carried on the way home because she tires herself out too fast.

That's all it from me! I'm looking forward to getting to know the other people in this class as well.

  1. Hey Marissa!

I'm also a fan of animated movies like The Princess and the Frog and Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. I took a music class, "Music in Film," and it made me appreciate movies more than I thought possible.

I can tell you've made the most of your time as a college student with internships and taking some fantastic classes. You deserve your scholarships.

  2. Hey Marissa,
I took a music class once; I forget what it was called but you had to try to decipher who wrote the music based on sound. Come to find out I am tone deaf so I cannot distinguish between pitches so that was fun to learn right before the final ha-ha, but luckily, I was able to drop the class. Your internship sounds like a fun time! I always felt that if you did a job you liked then it wouldn’t be bad at all. I recently binged Brooklynn 99 and needless to say it was so addicting, I love Andy Samberg and all the actors in the show. Going into the real world can be scary but I must say that after working for 3 full years it is very rewarding to work at a job you truly like and enjoy so there is not anything to be scared of. MY piece of advice for a new job would be to be early and make good impressions during the first few months so that your boss knows that you want to move up in the company. By the way, your dogs are so adorable!

  3. It is always exciting to have MIS majors in this class, Marissa! Fantastic! I hope you will learn some new technology tools and tricks related to web publishing, and if you have ideas for any technology tools or OU services I can include in the Tech Tips, just let me know!
I'm guessing there will be some good connections with this class and your other interests: music is a huge part of the world's storytelling traditions, so maybe you will want to do a music-inspired project for this class, or maybe learn something about the storytelling traditions from countries you have studied in other classes, like Cambodia. Or even to just let this class be a chance to kick back, have fun, and relax after all the hard work you are doing for your major and other classes.
And thanks for sharing the Ella pic and Rocket video; that is so cute about her getting so excited on her walk that somebody has to tote her back home. What a cutie! Perhaps Ella and Rocket could be characters in a story you write this semester; it sounds like they would make for a good storytelling duo I am sure! :-)

  4. Hi Marissa,
Your dogs are so cute! My Lab-Mix lays like that too, if she isn't sitting with both her feet kicked out like a human. Our music tastes are very similar, although you can throw in some classical for when I am studying. I've heard about Brooklyn 99 but never seen it. I might have to check it out.
Your summer was much more productive and useful than mine! I hope you find a wonderful job that you love!

  5. Hey Marissa!
I'm glad you got to take an eye-opening class like Human Rights. I have had many of those moments in the classes I take for my Sociology minor. It sounds like your summer went great; I'm happy on your behalf for getting those scholarships and landing that internship! I started watching Brooklyn 99 but didn't get past the first few episodes because I got busy. This is my reminder to give it another try! I've always enjoyed coding and self-taught myself quite a bit in high school so it's cool to meet someone with the same interest. I hope you find the perfect job after this semester!

  6. Hello Marissa!
I really enjoyed reading about who you are through your Introduction Post! I really enjoyed reading about your internship through Citi Financial, I also had an internship this past summer as well working in Marketing. I also wanted to say congratulations on receiving the scholarships you talked about. I spend a lot of time applying to scholarships as well so I understand the struggle of applying for hundreds and hearing back from 2. Im glad you are as enthusiastic about this class as I am!

  7. Hey Marissa!

Congratulations on your internship! It sounds like you are well on your way to achieving your goals after college. I got so excited when I saw that Brooklyn 99 was listed as one of your favorite shows; my family and I are obsessed with it (we own every season on DVD). Andy Samberg is a comedic genius! If you ever want more ridiculousness by him, look up The Lonely Island on youtube - they make hilarious music videos. I also love the movie Forrest Gump! I went through a phase in high school where I watched it several times a month; it is the perfect mix of drama, romance, and comedy.

  8. Hi Marissa! I love Brooklyn 99 too. I can't wait for the new season! I'm so envious you went to Arizona; that's definitely high up on my list of places I'd like to visit. I graduate in December too, so I totally feel you on the stress of finding a job in these next few months. With a great internship under your belt, I'm sure you'll have no problem! :)

  9. Hello Marissa! Brooklyn 99 is probably one of the better comedies that I have watched in a long time. I am very hyped for the new season. That internship sounds so awesome!! Citi is a massive country and that is great that you got the chance to work with them! Your dogs are so cute! I am huge dog person and I wish I could have both of my dogs hear in Norman, but my mom would not let me take them from her. Hope you have a great semester!!

  10. Hey Marissa!
I love B99! Its also one of my favorite shows! I love how the relationship between Amy and Jake has evolved and how the jokes are written! It is one of the best shows on television right now in my opinion. I can't wait for the new season! Also you dogs are so cute! Share more pics please!!

  11. Hello Marissa, you sound like a very interesting person! What made you get into MIS? I also took world music last semester and found it to be so interesting! I also had a great teacher which helped. Congrats on the internship. I hear they are hard to get but well worth it. I love your career goal! I too when I finish would simply like a job so I can stop the ramen train…. Good luck on all your future endeavors!

  12. Hello Marissa, I think your career path will be a great one. Anything involving technology will get you a good job for sure! Sometimes I wish I had gone that route but here I am as a Communications major. I also am graduating in December and I feel the urgency of finding out what I will do next. I have to agree with you on all your movie and show choices, great picks. It seems like you are very close with your dogs! I love that! I have a deep connection with all of my house plants. Plant mom all the way. I wish you the best of luck finding a great job after graduation!

  13. Howdy Marissa,
It is really impressive that you were able to get an internship over the summer, that is most certainly something to be proud of. I am sure that it made for great experience and it will look great on a resume. I am in a research lab and it has been really helpful for my career. I also love Steven universe; it is such a great show with a lot of heart. I have yet to see the movie, but I’m caught up other than that.

  14. Hi Marissa,
First of all, your video of Rocket is so funny. I have a German Shepherd back home, and they are just the best pets. I am also into stranger things, and the new trailer made me so excited for season 4! I too had a busy summer working, so I can understand not being able to experience a break, but your internship sounds like it was very engaging! Nice to meet you!

  15. Hey there Marissa! I really love how you included your dogs in your intro! I have two dogs as well, and one is a yorkie who reminds me of Ella. They can be so spazzy, but then they run out of juice so to speak quickly. It is so great that you were given the opportunity to have an internship during the summer, and I am sure that will help your resume when you graduate! Best of luck for the rest of the semester and graduation!

  16. Hi Marissa! Forrest Gump is also one of my favorite movies! Although it is super long, I love it so much and have watched it so many times. Your dogs look so sweet! My dogs also love human food, and I'm a sucker for just giving it to them... Oops! Congrats on your internship and almost graduating! That's a huge accomplishment and you should be so proud. Best of luck with graduation and finding a job!

  17. Hey Marissa! I loved reading your introduction! Also, I just watched Forrest Gump last week...I think every single time I watch it, I am reminded of why it's one of my favorites! I learn something new every time. I just got a new puppy last week and I am obsessed with him! Congrats on graduation!

  18. Hey Marissa!

Thanks for sharing your introduction with us, I really enjoyed reading it! I also love the movie Forrest Gump, I think its a classic in so many different ways. I wish I could relate with the dogs, but unfortunately I never had any. I hope to get a big dog when I'm older, as I do love them. I look forward to reading more of your stories!

  19. Hi Marissa! It’s nice to meet you. I think that it is so cool that you are able to do so much with technology with your major. Tech skills are something that I definitely want to work on in the future. I also have taken World Music here at OU, and it was one of my favorite classes so far. Your pets are so cute! Good luck with the rest of the semester!

  20. Hi there! It's nice to meet you! Congratulations on graduating early this December, I wish that is what I was doing, but then I would've had to take on a huge work-load this semester, and I didn't think I would have enough time to do so. Also, I LOVE the Jurassic Park movies. Which movie was your favorite? I have to admit that my favorite was Jurassic World. I never thought I would be a fan of these movies, but I was most definitely wrong there!

  21. Hey Marissa! I'm really glad that you've gotten the opportunity to study in a major you love and that you can pursue your passion. I think it's so cool that you got to intern with Citi this past summer-- I bet that gave you lots of invaluable experience for your resume! That will definitely get you where you want to go in the future. By the way, your dogs are so cute! I have four myself, so I can definitely relate! Good luck this semester, and congratulations on graduating so soon! I'm sure you're going to do great things!

  22. Hi Marissa,

Sorry to start with a comment on the website, but, at least on my computer, the contrast between the background (black) and the text (very dark gray) is very, very low, and I’m having a hard time reading it. I’m not sure if this is just at my end, but it might be something you want to check.

Congrats on your internship, that sounds great!

    Best,
    A.M.

  23. Hi Marissa,

Congratulations on receiving academic scholarship! That is no easy feat. I am so happy that you were able to see your hard work pay off! I am so jealous that you got to take a class about human rights. That sounds like it was such an interesting, yet insightful class! I feel like after taking that class, one will have such a different perspective on life. I hope that you are able to find a job that you love after gradation. Good luck!

  24. Hi, Marissa! It’s nice to meet you. I also love animation—it looks like we enjoy a lot of the same things. Also, congratulations on your scholarship awards and your upcoming graduation! Coding is amazing, and I hope that you find the career that suits you best. Until then, I hope you’re enjoying mythology and folklore, and I can’t wait to read some of your stories!

  25. Hi Marissa! Nice to meet you via online. What a cool major, MIS. I have not heard of that many people with that major, but it is definitely a very interesting and great major! That is awesome that you had an internship this summer! I had one also, it was definitely a change from the normal break I would have but I was thankful for the opportunity. Where did you intern at? Did you enjoy it? I am also graduating in December how exciting! Have a great rest of your semester we are so close to being done!

  26. Hi Marissa!

I have a ton of respect for you being an MIS major, coding is so hard for me. I even took a coding art class for a video game and it was so confusing as well. I also have a huge appreciation for animated movies! I don't know if it's just because I have younger siblings or because I've taken some animation classes so I know how difficult and time consuming it is - probably a good mix of both. I hope you have a great semester!

  27. Hi Marissa,

That's cool that you're a MIS major. I'm a Computer Science major and the two seem pretty similar! I have to admit I'm a little jealous of your internship at Citi financial. Working on software programs for financial companies would be really interesting. I can definitely relate to your academic career being a roller coaster. When I first went to college at Rose State I flunked out. It's hard to believe I'm about to graduate with a Computer Science degree. I graduate in December as well so maybe I'll see you at graduation!
